We are here to help you.
You're never alone.

Our social workers provide professional counselling for students when challenges in life start to get in the way of learning and well-being. They offer a welcoming space, where you feel supported. All meetings are held over Microsoft Teams, just like your online classes, so it's easy to connect face-to-face from home in a way that works best for you.

Our social workers are there to listen, offer support and help you work through challenges at school, at home or in your personal life. Whether it’s a one-time check-in or ongoing support, they’re someone you can trust and turn to if you're feeling overwhelmed.

Our Social Work Team

Sue Mills
Hi, I’m at our Kenaston campus and have been a mental health counselor for 20 years.

I love trail riding and am lucky enough to ride my horse to work, since I live only a few miles away. I like to spend time outdoors interacting with nature. I’m looking forward to meeting you and hearing what you’re passionate about.
Aryn Peterson
Hi, my name is Aryn and I’m a registered social worker at Sask DLC’s Saskatoon campus. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary and have worked in healthcare, nonprofits, government, and schools across Saskatchewan.

I love connecting with students and families from all over the province and strive to make school a welcoming, supportive place. I am a positive, empathetic person who sees the best in everyone! At home, my cross-eyed cat Honey Bee reminds me that we’re all unique in our own way - I’d love to hear about your pets too!

This year, I look forward to meeting students, talking about mental well-being, and sharing positive coping strategies. A little support can make a big difference!
Kimberly Duquette
Hi, my name is Kimberly and I’m based out of our Swift Current campus. I’ve spent many years supporting people with their mental health in schools, hospitals, and community organizations. I enjoy connecting with students online, where I get a glimpse into their lives - seeing their pets, artwork, and the things that make them feel comfortable and safe.

I live on a farm and spend lots of time with my two dogs, who occasionally pop in to say hi during sessions. Building those connections is one of my favorite parts of this work, and I’m always here to help.
How Social Workers Support Students

Our social workers will support your overall well-being so you can succeed in school and life. Sask DLC social workers are:
• A safe person to talk to
• A motivator and encourager
• Someone to teach you about mental health
• Someone who truly listens
• An advocate for you or your family
• A space to talk through hard things
• Someone to help you find new strategies to feel better

When Should You Reach Out

• If your mental health is affecting how you live or interfering with your schoolwork
• If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or sad
• If it’s hard to get along with your family or friends
• If your life situation feels too hard to handle on your own
• If you or your parent need someone to speak on your behalf
• If you just need someone to talk to — that’s enough!

How to Connect with a Social Worker

Three ways to connect with a Sask DLC social worker are:
• Talk to your teacher – they can connect you with a social worker, who will reach out to your parent/guardian
• Ask your parent or guardian – they can email or give permission for you to reach out
• Email socialworkers@saskDLC.ca

Why It Matters....

Life can be tough — but you don’t have to do it alone. Talking to a social worker can help you:

  • Feel heard and supported

  • Learn new strategies to handle difficult situations

  • Understand your feelings and relationships better

  • Build confidence and hope
